Venti’s 1 Year

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

vtweetSo today is Venti’s one year anniversary, and I’m sitting herewith Bill having lunch. Sadly I will miss the tapping of Damnation. Turns out they won’t tap the keg until 4:00 pm. They do have Ninkasi’s Radient summer ale in bottles, as well as Rogues Sesquicentennial ale. Total lunch was only $15 for two people. Not bad with the bomber of Ninkasi. Not many people seemed to realize it was the anniversary. There is also Venti family everywhere. In fact once Venti’s updates their blog I got a photo of me sitting and typing, with JR, Leslie, and Dino posing with me. I feel so lazy when I think about the fact I’m the only one sitting in that photo.

I’m excited that it’s one year for Venti’s at their new location, and that they’re doing well. I’ve known Conrad since highschool, so even though I’m not family I’m still excited for their continued success. I think part of this is also because Venti’s is personal and cares about their customers. Not only that, but as I’ve discovered over the last year they have great beer. Boy do they have great beer.

I hope you guys stop by and enjoy the offerings Venti has for what is a special day for them. I know I enjoyed myself even if Damnation wasn’t tapped yet :) It was great seeing Leslie, Dino, and JR, and we really enjoyed our lunch.

Another Venti’s Update

Monday, July 6th, 2009

JR left this comment on my last Venti’s post. Thanks for the update JR

Mr. Weekly, aka, Jared,

Further evolution regarding Venti’s 07 July 2009 Anniversary Celebration.

Rogue Sesquicentennial Ale is not available in kegs.
So, Thane, Venti’s most competent bar manager and extraordinary beer man, has purchased
- a 12 bottle case of 22 oz bottles
- a 24 bottle case of 12 oz bottle
of Rogue Sesquicentennial Ale. These are offered at a special price until the stock is depleted.

The Special Anniversary Day Special, based on loyal customer request and product availability, is a keg of Russian River’s Damnation, Belgium Style Strong Golden Ale, offered at a special price until the stock is depleted, the keg is ‘blow’.

Clever man that you are . . . you will notice that Russian River is a Santa Rosa, California, brewer; seemingly, inappropriate for the stated joint celebration of Venti’s anniversary, Oregon Craft Beer Month, and State of Oregon Sesquicentennial.

However, Rouge Sesquicentennial Ale and 4 taps will satisfy the recognition of Oregon and Mr. Chocholak, Thane, stands by the celebratory merit of Russian River’s Damnation.

Ask And Recieve

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

vtweetWednesday I let you guys all know some of the details about Venti’s 1 year anniversary at their new location (why do we still call it the new location after a year?) When I posted the details I somewhat jokingly had said that I had been hoping for

some great tap prices, or an extra special keg

Turns out Leslie read this line as I got a Facebook message letting me know that the event was still evolving, yet there were no plans for a special keg, but all drinks would be happy hour prices from 4-11. Cool I thought. There is always great beer on tap so happy hour prices sounds great. Then I got another email.

Here is where the ask and ye shall receive part comes in. Leslie had asked for my email address, and not to long after giving it to her this showed up

Happy hour prices on pints $3 all day, but happy hour on mixed drinks only after 4 when lounge opens

Gettin a keg of Rogue Sesquicentennial Ale

Talk about awesome. Venti’s has definitely gone above and beyond. Not only that but because of that email I now feel all powerful. What a nice feeling.

So now that Venti’s has gone out of their way to make this celebration worthy of being listed in the craft beer month event list we must do our part. Get the word out there. Three dollar pints is an unusual thing to see for beer of the caliber that Venti’s serves. So not only will you get an awesome price on a pint, but you will be supporting a great local restaurant. See you all on July 7th hopefully.

Honest Pint Future

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

large_honestpint

As I hoped, the honest pint bill failed. I know this view makes the hair on Portland drinkers necks rise and causes them to foam at the mouth. Let’s face it though. The way the bill was written was sillly. The bill provided no incentives for pouring honest pints other then a pat on the back.

Happily though the Honest Pint Project is still alive. I love the grass roots version because it’s about the people doing something themselves to get better pours. I wonder sometimes what Jeffs expenses are though. Maybe he should post them so people who want an honost pint can donate to cover it. Anyway

Jeff has declared this Saturday certification Saturday, and will be visiting pubs with a measuring cup and a camera. The great thing is he’s leaving it open for us to get involved to. If you happen to be swinging by an Oregon pub this Saturday you should bring a camera and 1 pint measuring glass with you, then send the picture and information to him. I’m gonna go out on a limb though and say that you could measure your favorite pubs later then Saturday though.

So here is your opportunity to shape the future of beer in Oregon, not through legislation, but through your own hard work. Get out there and get your favorite pub certified. Let’s take Oregon’s future in our own hands instead of letting politicians do it for us.

Oregon Craft Beer Month, and Happenings Around Salem

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

These were supposed to be two separate posts with todays celebrating the start of Oregon Craft Beer Month and tomorrow talking about the many events in Salem, but since CapitolTaps pre-emptively struck on the Salem front I am combining to save face.

Oregon Craft Beer Month

As I’ve already stated today is the launch of Oregon Craft Beer Month. This means instead of about 2 or 3 beer events per a week around the state we have gone to several per a day. Exciting eh? Problem is about 90% of the events seem to be in Portland. There is no reason why they shouldn’t either. Portland more then any other city in Oregon takes beer drinking to a new level. There are plenty of craft beer drinkers in Salem, not to mention three breweries. You’ld think Salem these breweries, as well as people that serve Oregon craft beer, would join in the celebrations. Yet outside of Bend and Portland celebrations are few and far between, and almost never advertised as well as they should be. Check out the Oregon Brewers Guild blog for a full list of events

The highlights of this month seem to be as follows

Puckerfest – Belmont Station July 10-16

I understand Belmont Station is a store/pub, and that some people won’t consider this a true festival. So instead lets consider it a celebration of  soured beers.

Portland Interenational Beer Fest – North Park Blocks July 18-19

22nd Oregon Brewers Festival – Tom McCall Waterfront Park July 23-26

Happenings In Salem

We may not have the crazy, boozy, haze filled month here in Salem, but there are some cool things goin on here.

According to CapitolTaps Pale Horse will be pouring tasters in a couple locations in Salem Check out the site for more info.

Also Venti’s is celebrating it’s first year in it’s new location. I messaged Leslie Venti hoping that there would be some great tap prices, or an extra special keg. I got no dice though. Here’s what she sent me.
