Deschutes Posters

Friday, July 10th, 2009

deschutes-logo2I’ve been meaning to do an update for awhile about this, but one thing after another drove it from my mind.

I got ahold of two separate people from Deschutes, and they’ve both declined having an add on this blog. Also they informed me that they can’t give me any hats, tees, glasses, or such to give away. Sad day eh? Awesomely though I am still gonna give away the posters. The problem is I can’t decide how. If I’d have known giving stuff away took this much thinking I would’ve delegated away this responsibility to Paul. I do enjoy being able to tell people they won something though so I will figure something out eventually. Also I’ll keep beating the streets for more free beer related stuff to give away. After all I’m a poor kid in my twenties, so free is good.

I know there are a few people that read this blog who deal either in homebrew equipment, or with breweries, so if you guys want to run any contests to promote your business let me know.

The Coolest Beer Related Email

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Yesterday morning I awoke to both the most exciting, and the most  annoying beer related email I’ve received.

Mr Beer Give Away

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

84-lrg1The Mr Beer give away is still going. For those interested you can still enter by writing a relevant comment to any post on this blog. The great thing about this is that you can enter as many times as you like this way. For every relevant comment you will get one entry in the contest.

Starting today though there’s another way to enter. Send me an email at theweeklybrew@live.com letting me know your favorite beer related story. Granted you can only send one story, but if you want to get multiple entries using this method then get a friend to send one in, and have them mention that you told them about the contest, also make sure they put your name and email. If they just put Rick told me then that would create issues since I don’t know who Rick is nor how to contact him. If you get a friend to do this then you will both get an entry.

Please keep in mind that by sending me your story your giving me permission to post it on my blog. I may not use any of them, but if there are some great one I’ll post them, with full credit to the sender of course. This means you probably shouldn’t send me a story about the time you got drunk and did something illegal.

Mr. Beer

84-lrgThe Contest

Seniõr Paul has come through in spades and has gotten a Mr. Beer to give away on this blog. For those unfamiliar with Mr. Beer check this google page for it out Mr. Beer Premium Edition Home Microbrewery System. Mr. Beer is a great way to get into brewing without the cost or research. It comes with a small fermentor, a kit with I believe pre hopped malt extract, yeast, and bottles that don’t require a capping system. While this doesn’t offer the variation and control of the beers you can make with a proper brewing setup it still can make fairly passable, and even good beers depending on the kit. I know passable isn’t what a beer snob would prefer most of the time, but hey, it’s free, and it’s made by yourself. Anything as cool as that?

The Details

Now we get to the details. The contest starts today, and will continue until May 23rd. Why May 23rd? Well I want as many people to enter within a reasonable time as is possible. Well it also is my birthday, and it’d be cool to give it away then. So how do you enter? Well I’m going to take a page out of Ryan’s blog at Porsche Perfect. For those who don’t know about it Ryan is giving away an actual Porsche on his blog. Here’s the link http://www.porscheperfect.com/porsche-giveaway. Ryan has multiple ways to enter his drawing, and I think it’d be cool to do things that way. Here’s the catch though. I won’t give away all the ways at once. In order to find out you’ll have to check back. Also in case common sense isn’t your forte then just know you can’t win if you are not over 21, or of legal drinking age. I may not be giving away beer, but use your sense God gave you.

The Way In

This weeks way in is so simple a high schooler could win, if they were allowed to participate. All you have to do is leave a relative comment on any of my posts. Every relevant comment you make will get one entry into the drawing. Im probably leaving something out, but I’m writing this on Tuesday night, to post on Wednesday, and I’m tired. Oh yeah, if you get a chance check out Paul’s blog and get to know him at pacificpedaling. Paul is an awesome man who I’ve known since middle school.

Sorry For My Tardiness

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

sorry-piecesI apologize for not getting this up earlier today, I was having internet troubles. Today I’m gonna clean some house in terms of posting since I have several things to cover.

1. Potential Prizes

Paul over at 72mm is the guy that graciously set up this blog, and allows me to post on it. To up the ante Paul has also talked about potentially giving away some beer/brewing prizes on this blog. Not everything has been finalized, but I’m still excited about the possibility of doing this. I do ask one thing though. If we do the give away please help get the word out so that as many people as is possible can participate.

2. Coastal Crawl

Friday I’m supposed to go up to Newport and visit the Rogue Brewery. Are you jealous? I’m excited to go do some tasting. Hopefully I can get a decent post about Rogue done for Friday or Saturday in honor of this little trip.

4. Tastey Treats

This title is a stretch, but I want to keep the theme. I’ll be bottling the Rose Red next week, and it will be ready for consumption towards the end of March/beginning of April. If you live close by, and want to have a bottle and hang out for a bit feel free to shoot me an email at theweeklybrew@live.com so I can give you directions. Carlos and J already have bottles claimed, so don’t worry guys, they’re commin.

4. Brewing Prep Sucks

Ok, I killed the theme I had, oh well. My thumbs are very sore right now. Last night I de-labled around forty bottles in order to prep for bottling the Rose Red. More and more I am hating this process, and considering kegging my beers. The problem with kegging though is the cost, and storing the equipment. Also has anyone ever tried to de-oil peanut butter? It’s a really sucky, and lengthy process. Hopefully a Reeses Cup Beer is worth it.

5. Last But Not Least

I talked to Conrad about posting Venti’s taps on here, and he in turn talked to Dino. I’ve gotten the go ahead to post them, but with a hitch. As a teaser Dino is gonna let me know what brewery the new beers are coming from, but not what the actual beer is. The reason for this is they get customers (like me) who come in to see what’s on tap, and end up eating there. I don’t wanna mess with Dinos buiseness, so we’re gonna turn this into a fun game somehow.
